SH3 Commander (although not strictly a mod) and GWX 3.0 are essential, there are other 'supermods' such as Living Silent Hunter 3, NYGM etc but GWX is the best overall experience in my opinion. GWX is one of them. Sh3 commander is a self supported stand alone mod, It is basicly used so you can promote, give medals and what not. Because of the way the default game, the sea can be so dead of convoy traffic you will move through the war when you doc faster before you can give out medals and promotions.

SH3 Dynamic Campaign finally gives Silent Hunter 3 a dynamic campaign. This means when ships are sunken they will no longer appear within the campaign. If they are just a generic tanker or if they are a renowned capital ship, that generic specific tanker or all the instances of that capital ship will no longer appear within Silent Hunter III within that specific career.
