I was not the least bit disappointed. We were given the return of the beloved characters: Catherine Willows, Jim Brass, and Gil Grissom. Need for speed underground hints. For any true fan of the show there were nods to past episodes, from the pilot to Boom to Lady Heather's Box and more. It was a wonderful Easter Egg hunt of such connections. Viewing the shows numerous times I am still finding these little gems.
For those who wanted a major case, that is not what this movie was about nor should it have been. It was about giving fans such as myself chance to say goodbye, and envision the future for some of our favorite characters.
Both Grissom and Catherine return to Vegas after a bombing at the casino Catherine inherited from her father leads to evidence implicating Grissom’s old flame Lady Heather. Grissom and Sara – on speaking terms if not romantic ones - visit Lady Heather’s home, but she’s missing. From the evidence, they surmise she may have been attacked or attacked someone and then gone on the run. After another bombing – this one at a school -- everything still points towards Lady Heather being the mastermind. Our team finally finds Lady Heather, only to have her explode in her car during a chase. However, Grissom realizes it wasn’t Lady Heather at all, but a decoy.
He meets up with the real Lady Heather, who tells him she IS responsible for the bombings. Part two begins with Grissom walking Lady Heather into the precinct with all eyes on the two of them. She explains that she was on the run in fear that her attacker would come back and since all of the bombings were painting her as the mastermind she continued to stay hidden. She is not behind the bombings but knows that whoever is has a vendetta against her, likely a former “Red Room” client. Sara doesn’t believe she’s innocent, but Grissom has faith. A mysterious suitcase comes into the precinct and turns out to hold the remains of the man who killed Lady Heather’s granddaughter.
The team realizes the suitcase also contains a clue to a location, where they discover a synthetic cadaver. A bee Grissom finds inside the cadaver leads him and Sara to the location of the one responsible for the bombs – Dalton, a Red Room patient who blames Grissom for Lady Heather closing her practice.
At the same time, Catherine, Greg, and Morgan risk their lives disarming the next bomb in a Las Vegas sky-rise. They succeed, as does Grissom, calling Dalton’s bluff and having him arrested.
